Conshohocken - Our new home!

Only a few weeks in our new home, and it has been a bit of a whirlwind to say the least.

The bulk of the time so far has been the new job and settling into our home, so while I can't claim a host of adventures, we have been exploring as much as possible.

Our entire dining room filled with empty boxes
We are ecstatic about our decision to live in Conshohocken. It has a charming, small town feel, yet in the middle of the massive Philadelphia metropolitan area. The Schuylkill river is right outside our window, and the train station just minutes by foot down the road.

Conshohocken
Every building in town is full of character!
The proximity of local restaurants to our place might be my favorite aspect of the move so far. We are within walking distance of Thai, Mexican, American, and Italian BYOB restaurants. Since this is so foreign coming from MN, I assumed BYOB was just wine with a corking fee. No, not at all here. We saw people bringing in 1.75's of tequila, already opened wine, and cases of beer.

The variety of restaurants is almost overwhelming, and the focus on fresh, local ingredients is spoiling my taste buds. A Happy Belly post of the future will elaborate on the food out here in depth.

We are also within a couple of miles of all errand requirements, and the reverse commute to work is making the antagonizing Philly traffic seem pretty miniscule. The close proximity to downtown  (25 minutes by train) and New York City (within 2 hours by train, bus, or car) make the weekend activity options endless. A short drive north also gets us to the Pocono mountains with hiking, kayaking, and whitewater rafting options abound.

Being a fan of craft beer, this is the place to be! We have now checked out 3 surrounding cities and went to a brewery in each. My favorite so far was Tired Hands Brewing Company in Ardmore (which is also the city hosting the PGA US Open this summer!). The brewery only has two constant beers, but otherwise rotates completely new batches. If you go every few weeks the entire beer menu will have turned over.  Each beer has a diverse flavor profile, and as we chatted at length with one of the main brewers, their sense of adventure and passion when creating new flavors was obvious. Since then, we also went to Manayunk Brewing Company in Manayunk and Iron Hill Brewery in Chestnut Hill.

The entire area seems to be a surplus of quaint, small towns, even though Philadelphia is the second largest city on the east coast. We are LOVING it!

  2. It sounds like you enjoy the local brew pubs. Gotta check out Forest and Main in Ambler - not too far for you. Excellent craft beers, cozy atmosphere and the food is absolutely wonderful :) Welcome to the area!
